Abstract

The thesis  entitled ‘The People Preaching Activities in Sub-District Unit  of  Buddhist Monks In Phrao District, Chiang Mai Province’ consisted of 2 objectives:

1) To study of monks activities in the Local training Course Unit for People in Phrao District, Chiang Mai province and,

2) To analyze the operational role and seek the ways to improve the the Local Training Course Unit for People in Phrao District.

The research was conducted by the Survey Research method by using the questionnaires. The populations were 96 abbots of Mahanikaya Buddhist Order in Phrao District, Chiang Mai province. The data collected were analyzed and described by using frequency and percentage.  

                        The results revealed that 1) The  operation of Local Training Course Unit for helping people can be classified into 8 aspects.

                The results of the operation had shown that morality and culture were found at high level by average total equalled to 3.90, the highest operations included Lanna tradition, month 4 of Peng (traditionally eat  new  rice) with average equaled to 4.91 while health was found at medium level and the average total equalled to 3.28. Afforesting, tree ordination ceremonies for forest conservation are at the high operation level with average equal to 4.55. The livelihood was also found at medium level with 3.28 total average with the high operation equalled to 4.29 including supporting main occupation such as sufficient economy agriculture. Peaceful living was found at high level with average total equalled to 4.30. Regarding to the peaceful living, the highest operation is that the temple and community had organized the village community for solving the community’s problem with the average 4.64. On educations, it was found at medium level with average total equalled to 2.94, the high operation are providing fund to monks, and novice who past monk education in each level with the average equal to 4.34. Public welfares, the gratefulness, unity were found at high level with average total equalled to 4.40, 4.27 and 4.19 respectively. On public welfares, most operation found was people helped to repair and donated the money to repair and maintenance the temple with 4.91 average while on gratefulness, the operation that people do the most  was setting up activity on 12th August and 5th December  every year to show respect on the king and the Queen’s birthday  with average equal to 4.83 while setting up activity to enhance unity in the community by using temple as a centre was the highest operation with the average equal to 4.88. 

2)The problems and obstacles were found in the operation that the committees of the Local Training Course Unit for People understood its policy for 99.00 percent while 1.00 percent was not. The committees have carried out 97.92 of the communities’ problem to activate as the annual activities. On the budget, regarding to the monks was found 66.67 percent that the period of the budget was not appropriate and not enough for operating at 90.62 percent and it was considered to the huge problems.  The cooperation of the unit was also found respectively 86.46, 84.38 and 39.58 percent that the Local Training Course Unit for People has cooperated with other organizations in the area such as the Organizations Community, the Local Government, and the Government Organizations and the most were academic collaborations at 95.83 percent.

The evaluation was found that there were the inspection and the Annual Performance Report of the Local Training Course Unit for People and the president has summarized and reported by 96.88 percent.

The problems and obstacles were mentioned that there are not sufficient funds for the operation and equipments such as computers, projectors and the time of propagation Dhamma does not match of the people. This is mostly the same as the range of the plant or harvesting of agricultural crops of the villagers. Some of them lack the understanding of the operation of the Local Training Course Unit for People thus the lack of co-operation.
