ABSTRACT
The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict AdministrationOrganization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province, 2) to compare public opinions on the personal factors that affect the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province, 3) to study the problems and offer suggestions on the roles of environmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province.This research study employed mixed methods of quantitative research,field study of 384 people living in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province. Tools for collecting data were the questionnaire, both closed and open–ended, and the qualitative research by in-depth interviews of 18 key informants.Data analysis was performed by the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.). Hypothesis was by tested by Value F-test, One Way Analysis of Variance, and Least Significant Difference or LSD.
The findings of this research are as follows: 1. The roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province: itwas found that overall is high at the mean of 3.26, when considering the separated aspects, it was found that the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province was at a moderate level.
2. Comparatively, the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization,Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province based on personal factors, it was found that opinions of the people with specified age, marital status, occupation and monthly income on the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province differ significantly at the 0.05 level according to the hypothesis. Based on gender and level of education,their opinions on the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province show no differences and not in line with the hypothesis.
3. The suggestions on the roles ofenvironmental resource development in the community of Phathairin Subdistrict Administration Organization, Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province: 1)Creating awareness: Tambon Administration Organizationshould organizeactivities raising awareness of the community and caringfor natural resources in the community, the forest conservation areas must be labeled clearly, and the punishment for those who encroach should be taken seriously, and publicity campaign should be conducted to create awareness by providing environmental education, 2) Promotion of Environmental Education: Tambon Administration Organization should focus on education and knowledge of the natural resources, rivers and canals in the community, provision of dustbins for trash the litter in the community, community events or activities on the worthwhile use of natural resources, and clearly-labelled areas of forest conservation in the community, 3)Promotion of Natural Resources Rehabilitation: promote forest conservation in the community, help to monitor the local community,promote reforestation activities in the community on important dayssuch as Father's Day, Mother's Day,and 4)Promotion and Disease Surveillance and Prevention: monitor and oversee community forestgiving a priority on wild fires, emphasizepublic awareness and prevention of wild fires, allocate the budget for training staff on duty in the community when there are problemssuch aswild fires, deforestation in and around the community.
