Abstract
The purposes of the research titled “The Roles of Buddhism Propagation of Phra Suwan Chantaraja, the Ecclesiastical District Officer in the Territory of Champasak in Lao People’s Democratic Republic” were; (1) to study the guideline of concept and theory concerning the aspect of propagation of Dhamma in Theravada Buddhism (2) to study the roles of propagation of Dhamma of Phra Suwan Chantaraja, the Ecclesiastical District Officer in the territory of Chammpasak in Lao people’s democratic republic and (3) to analyze the roles of propagation of Dhamma of PhraSuwan Chantaraja the Ecclesiastical District Officer in the territory of Champaak in Lao people’s democratic republic. This research was the qualitative research and collecting the data from the abbots, locational scholars and general people in the territory of Chammpasak division in Lao people’s democratic republic for 20 samples by using the in-depth interview.
The results of research were found that with the Lao Sanghas’ administration from B.E. 2518. to the present, the Lao Buddhist Friendship Association used the regulation and solution of Dhamma and Vinaya conference, and the administrative constitution as the guideline for duty performance in Saringhas’ administration. The Lao Sanghas’ education after Lao Buddhist Friendship Association established two schools for the Sanghas, that is, the schools for Sangha teachers and schools for higher education called as the junior high education and senior high education. In propagating Buddhism in Lao country, the Lao Buddhist friendship Association appointed the commission for performing immediate duties in propagation of Dhamma for Lao people both inside and outside country and established various Offices of Insight Meditation throughout the country. The administration in the aspect of public assistance could be seen that the commission the public assistance performed the direct duties in reconstruction of religious materials that were ruined.
The problems in propagating Dhamma in Lao people’s democratic republic were that the propagation of Dhamma was not appropriately succeeded in the case of three causes, that is, the propagators were lack of knowledge in Dhamma and ability in preaching Dhamma because not to be trained in public speaking. The propagators were lack of confidence and love in preaching Dhamma in the way of stillness, not to take an advance.
Phra Suwan Chantaraja’s roles in propagation of Buddhism consisted of various forms by the assistant factors in the aspect of qualifications of preaching or explaining Dhamma, in the aspect of the Insight Meditation training, in the aspect of the youths training, the aspect of novice ordaining In the hot season. All these impacted on the successfulness in propagation of Buddhism of Phra Suwan Chantaraja. The factors that impacted on the individuals forced persons to search for knowledge, to study, to be thinker and to be researcher. Phra Suwan Chantraraja cultivated people to have the faith and belief in Dhamma of Buddhism by developing the individuals, family and society to develop the general society. For the factors effected Buddhism, Phra Suwan Chantaraja maintained and propagated Buddhism to people widely, to cherish Buddhism and to protect Buddhism in order to be with society of human beings and to make Buddhism stable for the long run.
