Abstract

Abstract

The research entitled “An Analytical Study of The Knowledge Source in Buddhism”. The objectives of this research are as three follows: (1) to study the knowledge of Buddhism, (2) to study of The knowledge Source in Buddhism, and 3) to analyze of The Source knowledge to Buddhism. This study is a documentary research, primary data from the Pali Canon of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University with commentary of the petition and secondary data collection from textbook, document and thesis.

It was found that knowledge in Buddhism had the basic idea from taking the lead to wisdom development in order to the application of knowledge management to find out that knowledge in Buddhism can be divided into two main kinds ,including Lõkîya level and Lõkuttara level. The benefit of knowledge in Buddhism is a tool to teach human beings to behave in a right way, to get the benefit themselves, the society and the nation. That is the source of moralities and traditions. That leads to three levels of benefits, namely Attha is necessity of respect, Samparãyikattha is the benefits in the future and happiness and Ditthadhammikattha is the benefits related to daily life. 

 

The Source of knowledge in Buddhism found that the knowledge in Buddhism has three ways, namely 1) Sutmaya-paññã is wisdom resulting from study or knowledge that is learned from others, 2) Cintãmaya-paññã is wisdom resulting from reflection or knowledge that is thought out and 3) Bhãvanãmaya- paññã is wisdom resulting from mental development or knowledge that is gained by development or practice.

An analysis of The knowledge Source in Buddhism found that the knowledge can be took place two levels, namely Lõkîya level and Lõkuttara level. There are six ways to make knowledge that is 1) the study of Buddhist principles, including Sappurisa-dhamma (Qualities of a good man) and Ariyasacca (The Four Noble Truths) such as Dhukkha, Sumudaya, Nirodha and Magga, 2) the knowledge of listening to the Dhamma on Buddhist Holy Day, 3) the knowledge take place from Yonisomanasikãra by thinking in a correct way, thinking orderly and thinking conventionally, 4) the knowledge of observing the precepts, 5) the knowledge of practicing Samatha-Bhãvanã and Vipassanã-Bhãvanã that is mental training in order to create the wisdom and understand thoroughly and 6) the knowledge is derived from Bãhusacca which are of the meaning as the state of the one who listens much, knows much and has much experience.
