Abstract

Abstract

This thesis consists of two objectives: to study the Five Things of Conductive to Long Life in Theravāda Buddhist Scriptures and to analyze the Five Things of Conductive to Long Life in Vipassanā Meditation practice. By studying the information from the Theravada Buddhist scriptures and other related documents, then, the researcher composed, summarized, analyzed, explained in details, corrected and verified by specialists.

 

From the research, the meaning of the Five Things of Conductive to Long Live is the phenomenon that leads to long live and short live. According to Anāyussā Suttā in Tipitaka, it is divided into two suttas which are 1) Pathama-Anāyusā Sutta consists of the following principles: 1. Sappāyakārī: to act with suitable and favorable for one’s health in accordance with beneficial or advantageous conditions (Sappāya), 2. Sappāya Mattaññū: to be moderate even as to things suitable and favorable, 3. Pariṇatabhojī: to eat food which is ripe or easy to digest and suits for meditation elements, 4. Kālacārī: to know the proper time which coordinate with Kālaññutā in the qualities of good man (Sappurisa-dhamma) principle and 5. Brahmacārī: to practice sexual abstinence, and 2) Duthiya-Anāyusā Sutta which appears that the first three topics are the same as Pathama-Anāyusā Sutta and the last two principles are 4. Sīlavā: to be morally upright and 5. Kalyāṇamitta: to have good friends. Sīlavā and Kalyāṇamitta in Duthiya-Anāyusā Sutta have the same meaning as Brahmacārī in Pathama-Anāyusā Sutta also. Moreover, the Five Things of Conduction to Long Live is related to the Threefold Learning (Sikkhā). For the basis of success (Iddhipāda), is related to the Five Things of Conductive to Long Live by the harmonization of long live phenomenon of Anāyusasutta. Finally, the five phenomenon of Padhāniyaṅga is also linked with the Five Things of Conduction to Long Live because every component of the phenomenon is related to the practicing principle and direct driven to the enlightenment. For the one who practices along to the Five Things of Conduction to Long Live, he will be contentment in consuming requisites suitably and favorably which will support him for Vipassanā Meditation Practice and enlightenment.

For The Five Things of Conductive to Long Live in Vipassanā Meditation, it is important because there are components creating to the development in practice. Begins by founding the important basis of comfortable feeling with Sappāyakārī, then fulfills by moderate consuming the comfortable things by Sappāya Mattaññū to make the performer practices contentedly, suite for abandonment of evil. For the practicing, One must depend on eating alms-food with the phenomenon of Pariṇatabhojī to make food digest easily, the physical elements condition suites for working. Combine with sexual abstinence practicing according to Sikkhā which is the basic of Sīlavā. When you get appropriate advices from spiritual friendship leading to develop controlling faculties (Indriya) of Vipassanā Meditation performing until the clearly understanding in occurring and ending of the suffering to old age and death, then leading to à-má-dtà , raising for worldly person to be a noble one.
