ABSTRACT

This Dissertation has three purposes: (1) to study the security of mar
riage in psychology and Buddhism; (2) to study the experiences of Buriram women in marriage with foreigners; and (3) to proposea Buddhist approach in building the family security of Thai women being married to foreigners in Buriram province. The study was a qualitative study in nature based on a documentary method and phenomenological method, using in-depth interview to collect data from key informants and analyzing data by a content analysis.

Results of the study were as follows:

1. In respect of a study of the security of marriage in psychology and Bud
dhism it found that the marriage security in psychology had no any problems bet
ween spouses due to mutual understanding which comprised three parts : (1) the positive part of the spouse; (2) the part of separation of the spouse; and (3) the alter native part to bring about the ignorance of the married life and caused the separat
ion or new marriage. The marriage security in Buddhism based on fou rmain princi
ples of the Four Virtues including Samajividdhamma 4, Brahnavihăra 4, Gharăvăsa
dhamma 4, Kulaciratthidhamma 4, Sanggahavatthudhamma 4 and 6 Principles of Directions causing the good quality of living, family and life.

2. Regarding a study of the experiences of Thai women in Buriram province married to foreigners it revealed that the phenomenon-based building of the family security of Buriram women married to foreigners included five elements: (1) the exter
nal force; (2) duality; (3) adaptation; (4) understanding of Thai traditions and culture; and (5) application of an intelligence in the couple life. These five elements worked together to ensure the marriage security of Thai women married to foreigners as the main force of life companion. Moreover, the living quality of Thai women married to foreigners is better in terms of economy, surrounding community's acceptance and  opportunity to observe  Buddhist doctrines.

 3. With regard to the proposition of a Buddhist approach in building the family security of Thai women in Buriram province being married to foreigners it rev
ealed that the spouse had applied a wisdom for building the internal marriage se
curity from today by learning from external ways and experiences including the fam
ily's failure, debt, relative's support, husband's death, life companion's features, Thai women's qualifications, good husband's behaviors, responsibility, self-adaptation, ada
ptation, and seeking of the language knowledge, adaptation of food and culture, un
derstanding of Thai traditions and cultures, participation in the religious activities, pay
ing more attention to the religious course of life, application of the wisdom and logics to solve problems, and earning living with mindfulness. Therefore, Thai women  who have got married with foreigners in Buriram province were successful in the life companion caused the social acceptance, good economic and perfect family.
