Abstract

Abstract

There were three purposes of this thesis to 1) study the history of the "Sankarn", 2) study the principles and beliefs of Sangkran tradition, and 3) study the concept of the traditional " Sangkran " according to the belief of the Mon people in Koh Kret, Nonthaburi with reviewing the scriptures, books, related texts, and re-modify as suggestion of advisor with descriptive lecture. The studies were found that.

According to the study, it has been found that after studying of the Sangkran of the Raman people in Koh Kret, this tradition of Sangkran has been preserved for a hundred years. There is a belief in the word Sangkran is the Sangkran n of Thailand. Thai people have adopted the culture of the Mon people as something that is close to the ancient. Sangkran or Songkran is a tradition in Southeast Asia countries, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Mon, Tai people as the ethnic in Vietnam and the Yunnan of China including Sri Lanka and the countries of eastern India. It was assumed that Sangkran festival has been cultured from Holy Festival in the South India.

The practice during the Sangkarn tradition of Raman or Mon people in everywhere is the same, it is emphasized on the importance of merit. Similar to Mon people at Koh Kret, they make the merit of sending Kao Chae or Peungsenggran and water the adults, released the birds and fish, offer the centipede flag, make the sacrifice to the deceased, and observing precepts in temple.  All which are the main principle is to giving alms, percepts and meditation as the heart of Buddhism.

The Sankarn festival in the opinion of the Mon people is the value and importance of the festival which is a great giving alms. It was noticed that Mon people are concerned about the preparation of merit, rather than to travel. Even faith is still within the framework of Buddhism. There will not be much fun but still be enough. Ghost beliefs are still be with the past. For San Karn on the last day, Mon people made the merit of the house, after making the merit, the medium called the god to ask about the income, water, rain, and if rain will have to follow the new season. Therefore, it is seen that the Sangkran is a tradition that keeps the family living together. They have a chance to make a merit together, show gratitude to their ancestors. The food culture and so on, it is attraction to attract people who are interested in the community. This festival will produce income in the community in the future.
