The Social Communication for the Learning Process Development of Buddhist Organization

Abstract

The study entitled “Social Communication for the Learning Process Development of Buddhist Organization”, consisted of three main objectives, namely, i) to study the social communication of the Buddhist organizations; ii) to study the knowledge management process of the social communication in strengthening the Buddhism learning of Buddhist organizations; and iii) to present the guidelines for development of Buddhism learning process of Buddhism organizations. This research was conducted by the mixed methodology. For the qualitative one, data were collected by in-depth interview with 24 key informants who were persons of communication management and experts, the education communicators from Mahachulalongkorn rajavidyalaya University, Mahamakut Buddhist University, Cherntawn International Meditation Center, Sathira Dhammasathan, while the quantity study, questionnaires were distributed to  400 listeners and participants   from the said Buddhist organizations in respect of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards  social communication for the learning process Development. The statistical techniques for data analysis were frequency, percentage,  mean and standard deviation.


The Research Results were concluded as follows:

1. The 5 perspectives of Social communication of Buddhism organization are     i) Communication format, ii) Communication Channel, iii) Communication content, iv) Participation created for the communication, and v) Communication management of the Buddhism organization. It was found that the communicators of all Buddhist organizations had the same format of communication. The First format is One-way Communication. This is the one way communication to the receiver with no response back to the communicator but the receiver will provide the feedback later to the communicator. This communication format, the receiver cannot interact immediately such as radio listening or Television watching. The Second format is Two-way Communication. This is the communication which the receivers have chances to response back to the communicators immediately. The Communicator and receivers may stand in front with each other or stay at different locations but both will be able to negotiate or response each other. The organization will have the same messages which were the education statement, Publication, Education services to public, Maintain art and cultures. In contrast, the organization will focus on the social development and peace statement for catalyzing the coordination of people understanding, support good tradition and cultures and cure the mental patients in society in the same channel such as the use of publication, television, radio, news media or social media.

2. All 5 perspectives of social communication knowledge management process to support the Buddhism learning is being co-analyzed with the 7 steps of knowledge management process, namely, i) Knowledge Identification, ii) Knowledge Creation and Acquisition, iii) Knowledge Organization, iv) Knowledge Codification and Refinement, v) Knowledge Access, vi) Knowledge Sharing, and vii) Learning. From the study, it was found that the organization communication format is excellent (𝑥̅ = 3.79) the organization communication management is high (𝑥̅ = 4.20), the communication channel is high (𝑥̅ = 3.60), the communication participation encouragement is high (𝑥̅ =4.30)

3. The guidelines for development of Buddhism learning process of Buddhism organizations revealed that there should have the knowledge sharing for people with no specific group with the theory from the     S M C R model by David K. Berlo which explains that the source, the message, the channel of the receiver must have the same attitude, knowledge and social culture background similar to the communicator. This will make the communication success by the knowledge management in human, technology, knowledge process. In order to bring the knowledge from the source to the user and the development and innovation by the Buddhism methodology to improve the communication with the cultivation 4 which are physical development, moral development, cultivation of the heart; emotional development and cultivation of wisdom; intellectual development. For the development of Buddhism learning process of Buddhism organizations, Bhavana IV i.e. Kaya Bhavana, Sila Bhavana, Citta Bhavana, and Panna Bhavana, should be applied in social communication in respect of knowledge, attitude and practice.
