Abstract

                This dissertation entitled ‘A Buddhist Practical Methods of Mindfulness for Improving Secondary School Students’ Behaviours in Second Year Class, Mother of Perpetual Help School, Bangkok’ has three objectives: 1) to study problems of Secondary School Students’ behaviours, 2) to create the Buddhist activity of mindfulness in order to improve students’ behaviours, and 3) to apply the Buddhist activity of mindfulness into students’ behaviours. This research employed mixed methods techniques, qualitative and experimental research. In this research, 24 students and 20 weeks were purposively used.

The research findings were found that: 1) the students’ problems of behaviours were obviously caused by their self-irresponsibility; they were of short temper and concentration, 2) after the application of the Buddhist activity of mindfulness, it clearly showed that their satisfactoriness were of 54.14%, t-test scores were of 2.23, t-critical scores were of 1.71, it could be claimed that the different scores were significantly made. In this research, the evaluative results gained from students’ behaviours wherein their calms were controlled, its scores were of 17.26, their following of what were instructed by teachers were of 18.34%, their concentration in working lasting up to 20 minutes was of 10.63, their asking of what were not clearly understood was of 8.17%, their punctuality in attending class was of 14.48%, their payment of attention while learning was of 14.79%, their concentration of the prescribed course was of 16.33, and t-test was of 25. And 3) the results gained from the application showed that teachers and parents were most satisfied at 3rd level out of 5th level resulting 25% in the effectiveness of students’ learning.

As regards students’ behaviours, changes into the good manners were considerably found. By virtue of the mentioned results, it could be clearly claimed that the Buddhist activity of mindfulness done through the awareness of physical movement wherein students’ behaviours were improved understandably showed the significant steps of the decided activity.
