Abstract

 

The dissertation titled as Buddhist Psychological Counseling for Suffering Reduction in Astrology armed as ; 1) to study the principles of Astrological counseling according to Buddhist Psychology for suffering reduction, 2) to synthesize of Astrological counseling according to Buddhist Psychology for suffering reduction and 3) to present the model of astrological counseling according to Buddhist Psychology for suffering reduction. This dissertation was a mixed method study of quantitative and qualitative research. Constructions consisted of rating scale questionnaire and in-dept interview form. Samples were 17 astrologers and psychologists, for in-dept interviews and 269 subjects those received astrological counseling .The statistics used were Frequency Distribution, Mean and Percentage.

             The result were as follows :

             1) Buddhist Psychological counseling for suffering reduction emphasizes on the importance of individual differences as personality. Counselors’ good virtues of friendship support counselee to comprehend suffering, eradication the cause of suffering, realization the cessation of suffering and practice the path of development. Counselors have to be good friendship, attentive, mindful of and to axcepted individual differences. And right understanding of the counselors is the most importance of the interaction of counselor- counselee

             2) In astrological counseling, it was found that astrologers work on individual concerning with personal problem, educational, occupation and family problems. Good inter – relationships help the positive advantage of the counseling. It help counselee to self understand, self – actualization, motivate the counselee to modify their behaviors. The process of counseling for suffering reduction needs the long - term activities of both counselor Interrelation– counselees’ potential and experiences. For the misfortune of counselee must be cautioned to be mindful attentive and aware, whereas the fortune of counselee also to be advised with non– negligence ; heedfulness, zeal, diligence and earnestness. They important properties were sublime states of mind, faithful and counselors’ honest. Astrologers motivates counselee to practice rules of the five precepts, meritorious action consisting in girting, observing the moral behavior and mental development.

             The survey study showed that counselee satisfied counselor’s knowledge, discernment and confidences. All counselees were higher expect problem to be con prehended, examine, survey and communication before the predicting and problem solving. The subject satisfied counselors’ moral conduct such as the concord between the counselor, not acquisitiveness gain. For emotional expect they satisfied counselors’ cheerfulness and tranquility mind. Mostly counselor work on cognitive counseling such as reasoned thinking follows by moral, social and emotional expect respectively. All counselors insist on the values of tolerance, morality, alms – giving, practice meditation etc.

             3) The model of Buddhist Psychological counseling for suffering reduction must establishs on the process of Four Noble Truths for solving individual problems to develop the self efficioncy, the ability to understand and accept of the differences between persons and environments. The counseling process must stand on good friendships between counselor and counselee, with cognitive, moral, social and emotional values based on the nature of each  problems.
