A Study of Enlishtenment with Saddhāvimuttī in Theravada Buddhist Scriptures

Abstract

This research paper has two objectives; to study of Enlightenment with Saddhāvimutti in Theravada Buddhist scriptures and to study of enlightenment in Theravada Buddhism scriptures by studying the information in Theravada Buddhist scriptures such as Tipitaka, its commentaries, sub-commentaries and others that related texts, then compiled in descriptive style, presented to advisor for review. The findings revealed that;

Saddhāvimutti refers to those who attained liberation by confidence or a person who understood the Four Noble Truths and realized the dhamma that the Buddha has taught then rightly practiced to subdue all defilements (Āsava) with experience on Four Noble Truths by wisdom associated with confidence as a lead, it includes those who attained Satāpanna up to Arahanta with great confidence without experiencing any define liberations. Their some influxes only were destroyed by wisdom. 

Enlightenment through confidence or Saddhāvimutti would be done by using the great effort, mindfulness and awareness observing Nama and Rupa at present moment continuously, cultivating these 5 faculties; confidence, effort, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom. Practitioner starts from right confidence. This confidence will generate effort, effort causes mindfulness, the continued mindfulness generates concentration, with firm concentration wisdom will arise for realizing the Noble Truth. It may sum that 5 faculties with well practice lead to Noble path, fruit and Nibbana in the end. The faculty development starts with having confidence which caused by wise man association and listening their teachings. Having confidence, one has clear contemplation with mindfulness and awareness, sensual organs controlling, having 3 right deeds, cultivating 4 foundations of mindfulness. The complete mindfulness practice will complete also 7 factors of enlightenment, knowledge and liberation.
