Abstract

This research consists of 3 objectives which are (1) to study the Dhamma principles of the leaders’ ways of life, (2) to study the ways of life of the leaders in Thai societies, (3) to analyze and synthesize the Buddhist ways of life of the leaders in Thai’s societies as a role model for general public.

The process of the document research is conducted from the conceptual studies on theories of leaders’ ways of life from Tipiöaka, Aööhakathā, and other academic documents. The field research is the in-depth interviews on the ways of life of 15 leaders :- 4 community and non-profit organization leaders, 5 public organization leaders, and 6 private organization leaders.

The result of the study indicates that the Buddhist ways of life of the leader must start from being the good person to others and societies with the Dhamma principles in Nāthakaranadhamma, Gharāvāsadhamma, Sappurisadhamma, Brahmavihāradhamma, and Sangahavatthudhamma. To be a good leader should be having the good vision, kalyānamittā (true friend), and the good management ability with the Dhamma principles in Aparihāniyadhamma, Catu Iddhipāda, Catu Agati, and Catu Bala. Moreover, The Four Noble Truths, and Yonisomanasikāra are the Dhamma principles on the understanding of the nature of life which results in leaders’ inner spiritual development.

The study of the ways of life of the 15 leaders in Thai societies indicates that their ways of life were initiated from the self development to be the good, skillful and moral person.  Kalyānamittā and Yonisomanasikāra are also applied as the tools to support the achievements on self control, supervision of people under command, mastering the management system, and winning the hearts and souls of the people.

To analyze the Buddhist ways of life of the leaders for being a role model for general public is a good leader consists of the state of having the moral principles and ethics for living, and the knowledge and capability which will lead the organizations and human resources to be of prosperous successful development on materialistic and spiritual concept, and also creating social benefits. By this way, the leader is happy to carry out the lives which will be beneficial to others and societies.
