This Thesis is of the following objectives :- (1) to study the origin of the meritorious work called ‘the Punฺya Phawade’, the preaching of the Bodhisatva’s life called Mahājāti in Roi-Et Province, (2) to study the pattern of preaching in Punฺya Phawade (The preaching of the Bodhisatva’s life called Mahājāti) in Roi-Et Province and (3) to study the effectiveness in listening to the Sermon called the Punฺya Phawade (The preaching of the Bodhisatva’s life called Mahājāti) in Roi-Et Province

From the study, it is found that the  Punฺya Phawade in Roi-Et Province, was originally  the level ceremony with the objective  to perform the ceremony, according to the belief in Buddhism. For worshipping the Buddha and increasing the people’s mindfulness and the wisdom wising from the listening to the sermon. Hewer, at present, the ceremony is the one in pattern of commence.

The spread of Buddhism with the help of the ceremonial action on Buddhism is one of the good ways of spreading Buddhism. The Punฺya Phawade or Vessantara-Jataka is one of the parts which supports the people to be interested in Buddhism. The people in Roi-Et Province tried to build up the special characteristies  with the co- operation form the Provincial Sangha the officials, and the general people. Such the ceremony is the belief possessed by the Eastern people who usually perform the ceremony cluing the third and the fourth months every year. When such the ceremony has been developed with the help of the state, the said merit action is of the connection with the ceremony and politics in Roi-Et Province. This fact can be found in the creasing of the money given in the ceremony of celebrating this ceremony which is in connection with the national politics and officials in the Province.

In Buddha’s Gotama is of spreading Buddhism, Buddha’s principles of spreading Buddhism, He taught the Dhamma in order, from the easy Dhamma to the difficult  ones, from the formal  doctrines to the informal ones difficult to see, to cause the monks and the layman to have faiths.

The patter us of preaching the sermon called the Punฺya Phawade in Roi – Et Province at present are of two types, namely :

1. the preaching according to the palm leaver

2. the preaching in the form of singing the Pali stanzas

In conclusion, the Punฺya Phawade is the ceremonial type of teaching to cause the people to have harmony and co-operation in making merits. The benefits of its are following; 1) ethical benefit – the people has the proper conduct, 2) Behavioral benefit – good conduct in act, speech and thought 3) educational benefit – the people can improve their knowledge and 4) good life – because of their unity. The most important point in this matter is the construction of the art works, the communicate the suttle state of minds belonging to the persons who construct the art works, because the art works is like the language telling the human beings, civilization form the past up to the present.
