Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

              The main objectives of this research are:  1) to investigate the role of the Sangha to preach morality in schools under the supervision of the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province,  2) to compare the role of Sangha in preaching morality in schools under the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province, classified by personal factors  and  3)  to study the problems and guidelines in resolving the role of the Sangha in preaching morality in schools under the supervision of the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province. Survey research was conducted in this study. The samples of this research consisted of 529 students randomly selected from three schools, namely, Sena (Sena Prasit) school, Wat Chaiyaphum (Chaiyaphumwitthayakarn) School and Wat Maravijaya school (Kasem Pakasit Memorial) in Sena district Ayutthaya province. The tool for data collection was questionnaire. Statistical techniques employed  for data analysis were  frequencies, percentage, average, standard deviation(S.D.) for describing data from variables or personal characteristics. The analysis was also done through t-test for analysis the hypotheses in order to test the average difference between the two groups and f- test by one-way analysis of variance (One-way ANOVA) for testing the difference between the averages from three or more groups with LSD (Least Significant Different) method with the .05 level of significant difference.  

 

 

 

The results of this study showed that:

 

    1) The overall role of the Sanhga  to preach morality in schools under the supervision of the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province was found at the high level (  = 4.05 ) and when considered in each aspect, it was ranked at the high levels in all aspects.

 

              2) With regard to the comparison of the role of the Sanhga  in preaching morality in schools under the supervision of the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province,  classified by personal factors, it was found that gender and level of education was noted statistically significant difference at .05 level, thus accepting the set hypotheses. While  age, religion and family status found no significant differences even at .05 level, rejecting the formulated hypotheses.

              3) The problems and guidelines in resolving the role of the Sangha in preaching morality in schools under the supervision of the office of Educational Service Area II, Ayutthaya Province, revealed that for the problems it was noticed that some Buddhist monks behave themselves in inappropriate manner for morality preaching in schools in and out classroom, some used improper words during the propagation of morality in class, some involve with the drug usages and ways of squandering wealth.

    for the suggestion it was noticed that there should be a course in training and giving knowledge to the Buddhist monks who came to preach morality in schools, the appropriate place should be commended or award students with the appropriate behavior, the Sanghas should be good model, they should conduct themselves in a more admirable look, they should not be involved with drugs even with smoking,  relevant agencies should provide support equipment and other facilities for morality preaching Buddhist monks.
